Is turmeric good for your dog?
Did you know that your dog can benefit from the power of turmeric?
Here is why- Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant that helps filter the blood and helps remove toxins from the body. There is a lot of research that shows that turmeric has anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial power.
Turmeric can control inflammation, can relieve arthritis pain and can treat gastrointestinal disorders , just to name a few benefits. Best is that it can slow down your dog’s aging.
Because on itself, turmeric is very hard to absorb, you have to combine it with a good quality oil like coconut oil.
Here is how to make the turmeric paste:
- ½ cup organic turmeric powder
- 1-1 ½ cup water
- 1 ½ tsp ground pepper
- ¼ cup coconut oil
In a small pan, combine turmeric with water on medium heat for about 7 minutes until it forms a thick paste. Add pepper and coconut oil stirring well. Let the mixture cool down and place it in a glass jar. Store it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Start adding the golden paste to your dog’s meals. Start with ¼ tsp per day and increase slowly to up to 1tsp for large dogs. Mix the paste with some yoghurt or kefir.
If your dog is on any medication, make sure to check with your vet before giving turmeric.
